A Teenage Dilemma

The title of this post says it all, my son will be entering his senior year in high school, and he really wanted his room to reflect his laid back, carefree personality, but it also needed to provide an area for his friends to gather, as well as a place for him to study.

However, before the transformation could begin we needed some inspiration....

The inspiration for the room update came from Pottery Barn Teen
I really love those wooden pendant lights, and the low profile bed.

But since we could not replace everything in the room we started with new bedding and some art work.

After the bedding arrived it was time to shop for accessorizes,
I added this orange Ralph Lauren pillow to contrast with all the grays in the quilt, and because you can never have too many pillows....

We changed out the lamp shades to a more guy friendly barrel shaped shade from Target.

Mr. SB moved all the furniture around to give him more floor space, and to allow us to use this entertainment unit that we already owned and weren't using. It worked out great for holding all his video equipment and games.

This footlocker serves as a table/foot rest....

The university ave. sign was purchased from Pottery Barn Teen as well as the large canvas print of the wave.

I picked up the letters from Hobby Lobby to spell out SURF and use velcro tape to attach them to the wall.
What do you think about adding a curtain rod and two small panels? I think it would soften that window area, just not sure about covering the wooden shutters. Let me know what you think!

Yes, that is a jar of candy!

On this wall we located his desk, I would love to replace that chair with a smaller one, maybe one day soon..... like tomorrow!

The next thing on our list to replace is that brown futon with two leather club chairs and a large area rug kinda like these, and then we might have a real dilemma...like he may never move out! Yikes!

Thanks for stopping by,
Karen

P.S. Sorry for being absent for a few weeks, Mr. SB and myself have been sick and the house has been a real task to get back in order, however I did manage to drag my sick body to a few stores and make some fall purchases;)! I can't wait to show you what I found!

Happy Return to Fall Y'all

Let me begin by saying I love Fall and I especially love to decorate the house for Fall. The local stores are starting to feature Fall decor and I even noticed some Christmas items even though the weather in the South is still very hot and humid, which started me reminiscing, so please join me as I take you on a tour of my home from last Autumn.

The breakfast table is even set for Fall with ceramic pumpkins and amber colored glasses.

Touches of Fall can be seen on nearly every surface of our home.

The pheasants were a purchase from Hobby Lobby and landed on the sofa table.

The lantern is nestled in a wicker tray filled with pumpkins and fall colored leaves scattered about on the coffee table.

This pumpkin is rather large and sits in front of the fireplace.

As you may know from reading my blog I don't have much mantle decorating space(MDS), but I make the most of my limited space.

The bookshelves are backed with burlap fabric, and I must admit Mr. SB did a great job helping me with that project. The bookshelves also make up for the limited MDS!

The entry is decorated with a cornucopia and a Fall color piece of fabric. The pinecone pumpkin has been with me for several years and is a favorite.

Just a few picks and a pumpkin added to a box help create this vignette.

Another view of the sofa table.

A side view of the mantle.

The dinning room table set for six, I don't usually add the extension till Thanksgiving Day.

No truer words...lots of food to eat during the holidays!

All the lovely shades of Autumn come together in the dinning room.

Orange, gold, amber and green. The turkey plates were purchased from William Sonoma.

I really like the simplicity of this tablescape.

The bow was added to the store bought wreath and hung on the door to the laundry room, like I said Fall all around.

Thank you for stopping by A Southern Blossom I hope you enjoyed my Fall decor from the previous season and I look forward to sharing with you my ideas and creation for the upcoming Autumn.
Karen
